Below is a thank you letter, drafted with the help of my students, that was sent to two very generous contributors found through www.donorschoose.org:
Dear Jamba Juice and Mrs. Diane De Tar,
Your generous and timely donation of an iPad has helped our class reach the next level in the integration of blended learning into our daily pedagogy. Blended learning means that students learn from traditional methods and activities in addition to technology-based programs and instruction. In Room 28, students have an opportunity, for example, to create traditional pencil to paper reading logs OR to blog about their findings. Furthermore, students explore fictional texts and current events articles online and then answer comprehension and depth of knowledge questions that ignite their curiosity and solidify their research and analytical skills.
Additionally, the specific addition of an iPad enables students to explore applications that were not possible before on their PC-based Chromebooks. Because an integral part of our weekly classroom curriculum entails lessons in Computer Science and Engineering, we are able to access programs specific to Apple devices. Programs that help teach coding and engineering specific critical thinking skills are so appreciated in our room! Most recently, we have used the iPad to explore technology that was designed for the national Hour of Code, a global movement to teach coding to kids.
Thank you for making this possible. Moreover, thank you for helping to fulfill the 1.4 million jobs available in our country for those with precise technology-based skills. I can guarantee you that the next generation of skilled workers, Changemakers, Engineers and Scientists will hail from this group of gifted classmates. Stay tuned for an app. that changes communities for the better or an engineering design that saves lives coming soon!
Your generosity has helped to cultivate a wonderful group of children! Thank you.
In Gratitude,
Ms. Leo
