Homework I ask that you consider involving your child in family activities to increase their brainpower. Talking, creative play, and reading together are great ways to improve their learning. On Your Honor Homework binders will be sent home in September. Suggested Monday through Thursday weekly routine: 1 page of Math Expressions Homework and Remembering Book page a day (left pocket) 1 page of Wonders Writing page a a day (right pocket) 1 additional page of your choosing a day Projects: There will be occasional do-at-home projects assigned with specific due dates. I ask that you do not spend money on any of these projects. Please consider using items you already have that have little to no value. These are for academic enrichment and family togetherness.
Daily Reading: It is imperative that students be read to a minimum of 20 minutes every day. Not only does this increase their vocabulary and attention span, but fosters a love for reading and inquiry. A child who is read to WILL learn to read to him or herself. I will be sending home optional reading incentive logs over extended vacations with great incentives.
Sight Words: Sight words are essential to developing student's decoding skills. Because they are used so often, it is important that readers be able to recognize these words on sight (hence the term “sight words”). Students should know all of the sight words on the list below.
Math: Students will be sent home with a Math Expressions homework book. This is correlated directly with our weekly lessons and should be completed at home on the honor system.
