I am an enthusiastic teacher focused on teaching kids in a clean, safe, and fun learning environment.
I have been involved in education in one way or another for over 15 years. I have taught fourth grade, first grade, reading intervention (grades TK - 6), and kindergarten. I earned my teaching credential from the University of San Diego, hold a Masters of Education in Special Education, a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, and an Associate Degree in Cross Cultural Studies. My family has lived in San Diego since 1887 and my many, many cousins are my best friends. I love to ride my bike at the beach, practice yoga, go on long urban hikes, and read a good book. I love cheese. I really love cheese. I grew up in East County and graduated from Granite Hills High School. I have a Pomeranian pup named Larry :0)
Educating students is my passion and my calling. I feel privileged to be educating students in such a supportive learning environment and I am so lucky to be have been able to spend each day teaching and learning with such incredible children and staff. It was a challenging road to get here and I am so grateful to be your child's teacher. The year is spent exploring and delivering rigorous standards-based, research-based curriculum to pupils in a way that is very mindful to be engaging. One of my goals is for families and students to see the value in their experience. My intent is to foster the love of learning through engaging activities, the building of relationships, and by creating high interest learning activities that incorporate technology, accountability in education, kindness, and an emphasis on social emotional awareness and learning. I work to build a positive, emotionally and physically “safe” environment - a low affective filter - so children feel comfortable enough to build persistence and resiliency.
We explore and learn together, while addressing everyone’s individual needs and learning styles. My job, first and foremost, is to do my best to instill a love of learning and to do so zestfully! Together, students and I learn how to gain the motivation to do well in school so that they can and WILL BE well-prepared global citizens as they make their unique mark on the world!
Welcome to our new school year! We are going to be flexible as we teach and learn together. We can do hard things!
Each student will receive an iPad for home use. I highly recommend that kindergarten students do not take their iPads home. An 'On Your Honor Homework' binder will be sent home by September.
Tips for successful at-home learning: 1. Please set up a quiet place for your child to work. 2. Organize your child's materials and keep them handy and ready for use. 3. Please check ClassDojo and red folders every day. 4. Set aside 20 minutes a day to read to with your child
